In a stunning wave of progressive grassroots activism, fueled by healthy resistance to the Trump presidency, Democrats swept numerous races across the nation yesterday and made it clear that hatred, division, and authoritarianism has no place in the United States of America. In this “blue wave”, Democrats re-took TWO governorships, took back the entire state governments of New Jersey and Washington, and elected the nation’s first ever transgender state representative and first ever transgender city councilperson of a major city, just to name a few milestones. The Huffington Post presents a pretty comprehensive list which you can find here.
The Guilford County Democratic Party would like to sincerely congratulate those who have been elected to office across the county, and thank all of those who ran; it takes a high call to step forward and serve your community in elected office.
Additionally, we had more Democrats on the ballot this cycle than in recent memory, and higher levels of engagement in turnout and in precinct activity than the last two cycles. This is a further reminder that Democrats are fighting back not only in response to the veil of hate in the Republican party, but in establishing their own positive and inclusive American message.
We must remember, however, that this is not simply a cause for celebration — it is a call to more action and more pressure. Now is the most crucial time for us to step up and make our voices heard.
