A Message from the GCDP Chair

Tom Coley

Fellow Democrats:

I want to start 2010 by thanking you for supporting our Party’s platform and candidates in 2008. We needed a change from the Bush Administration’s borrow and spend/trickle-down economy and foreign policy failures. Guilford County helped send one of our brightest leaders to Washington to make a difference, friend and neighbor Senator Kay Hagan. Though the path to recovery is long, we have the right leaders—Democrats. In 2010, we need to build support to finish our state and country’s recovery.

The redistricting for the next 10 years will be done by candidates elected this year. School Board members and County Commissioners will redraw their district lines, which will affect our county politics. N.C. House Representatives and Senators will redraw their districts as well as U.S. Congressional Districts. The top of our ticket this year will be the winnable U.S. Senate seat held by Richard Burr. Three well-qualified Democrats have already entered the race. Other races are District Attorney, Clerk of Court, Sheriff, High Point City Council, Mayor, County Commission, School Board, Soil and Water Supervisor, and many judicial seats. We can make a difference.

To have a successful campaign, three requirements have to be filled: a plan, dedicated volunteers, and money. Our County Party has an experienced group of officers and core volunteers well on the way to completing our fall campaign plan. Our volunteer base is growing, but needs to be larger by September. The tough part will be funding. The Guilford County Democratic Party has two fundraisers, Century Club in February (for party operation/voter registration) and the Unity Dinner in September for Get Out The Vote. I ask you to be a member of our Guilford County Democratic Party Century Club to give our Party and candidates the early help that is so important to a victory in November. Our candidates and Party platform cannot win without you. Together we will succeed.

Sincerely,

Tom Coley
Chairman of the Guilford County Democratic Party
