DESCRIPTION:The City’s Office of Community Safety (OCS) is inviting residents to a gathering at Phill McDonald Plaza, 220 S. Greene St., at 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, in support of the Greensboro Police Department following the shooting death of Sgt. Philip Dale Nix.\nSgt. Nix was off duty on December 30, 2023, when he was killed while attempting to stop a crime in progress. He was a 23-year veteran of the GPD.\n“This is an opportunity to stand in support with GPD, Sgt. Nix’s family, and the various community groups he worked with while serving as GPD’s family victim unit supervisor,” said Latisha McNeil, OCS manager. “We are denouncing violence and promoting unity for all.”\n
