GCDP Issues/RISE Book Club – Out of Darkness

The October book is Out of Darkness (2015) by Ashley Hope Pérez. The book, a recipient of
numerous literary awards, has been banned in over 20 school districts. The larger discussion will
be the impact of book censorship on American culture. Jane Kraemer will be hosting the
meeting. Hasan Crockett, Ph.D., professor of history and political science, activist, and political
campaign strategist, will be our guest speaker. Anyone with an interest in the topic is welcome to
join the discussion. Refreshments will be served.
